Freee K.K. - a Japanese cloud accounting service company

Freee (Revenue: ~USD45 million; Employees: 481) acquired  Likha-iT Inc., a custom software development company in the Philippines. 

 

The aim is to acquire engineers and give opportunities to Japanese engineers to work outside Japan. 

 

* Freee is listed in Mothers, which is one of Tokyo Stock Exchange's sections for startup companies capitalized at above ~USD10 million. There are 379 such listed firms as of August 2021.

JFE Engineering Corporation - a Japanese company in the energy and environment systems industry

JFE Engineering (Revenue: ~USD5 billion; Group employees:10,000), and its affiliates acquired a 30% stake in Berjaya Alam Murni Sdn. Bhd., a Malaysian company that develops a waste treatment center. 

 

*JFE Engineering Corporation is listed in the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s first section, which is for large companies capitalized at above ~USD250 million. There are 2,100 such listed firms as of January 2019.  

 

Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co., Ltd. - one of the largest insurers in Japan

Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance (Revenue: ~USD15 billion; Employees: 14,577), invested in Trusty Cars Pte Ltd, a Singapore-based firm that has rapidly grown as an advanced emerging platform to sell used cars online, using AI for vehicle valuation.

 

The goals of this investment are to use digitalize insurance distribution inside and outside Japan, develop new auto insurance products, and create other businesses related to automobiles.

 

Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance’s corporate venture capital arm, MS&AD Ventures, initially invested in this Singaporean firm in January 2020.

Bridgestone Corporation - the world's largest tire and rubber company

Bridgestone agrees to purchase Azuga Holdings Inc. from Sumeru Equity Partners and other shareholders for $391 million. 

 

Azuga (based in Fremont, California; Employees: 430) is a US technology company that has developed a sophisticated fleet management platform with GPS tracking, video telematics, driver behavior management, and accident reduction solutions.


The acquisition will complement Bridgestone’s tire-centric digital solutions for retreading and cloud-based fleet mobility solutions.

Principle Co., Ltd. - a Japanese digital marketing consulting firm

Principle acquired Eboost Consulting, a U.S. digital marketing agency based in San Diego, CA.

 

The goal is to provide culturally and socially optimal digital marketing strategies to Japanese companies expanding into the U.S. market.  

Rakuten Group, Inc., - a Japanese electronic commerce and online retailing company

Rakuten (Listed in the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange; Revenues: ~USD14 billion; Employees: 20,000) decided to acquire the remaining stake in Altiostar Networks, Inc., a U.S. company that provides open virtual radio access network (vRAN) technology for 4G and 5G.

 


Hitachi Rail - a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd.

Hitachi Rail decided to acquire Thales Rail Signaling Solutions, a division (Revenue: EUR1.6 billion; Employees: 9,000) of Thales S.A., which supplies transportation-based automation solutions for railways.

 

The agreed price is EUR1.7 billion. The goal is to become a global leader in Mobility as a Service (MaaS) solution provider.


The buyer’s parent, Hitachi, Ltd., is a Japanese multinational conglomerate corporation conducting business ranging from IT, including AI, the Internet of Things, and big data, to infrastructure (Revenue: ~USD87 billion; Group employees: 350,000).

 

The seller, Thales S.A., is a French multinational company that designs and builds electrical systems and provides services for the aerospace, defense, transportation, and security markets.

Future Spirits Co., Ltd. - a Japanese web hosting service company

Future Spirits (Employees: 125) agreed to invest in a venture business by eight students of Kirirom Institute of Technology in Cambodia. The purpose is to train English-speaking cloud engineers and have a foothold in Southeast Asia.

Koito Manufacturing Co., Ltd. - a Japanese manufacturer of automotive lighting and aircraft parts

Koito Manufacturing (Listed in the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange: Revenue: ~USD8 billion; Group employees: 24,700), decided to invest an additional USD50 million in Cepton Technologies, Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of lidar (light detection and ranging) for ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems based in  San Jose, CA, U.S.A.

 

The objective is to combine Koito's product, design, and mass-production technologies for automotive components with Cepton 's innovative proprietary technologies.

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation agreed to acquire Smarter Grid Solutions Limited in the U.K. to enhance distributed energy resource management systems.

TechnoPro Holdings, Inc. - Japan's largest technology-focused staffing and service company

TechnoPro Holdings agreed to acquire Robosoft Technologies Private Limited (EBITDA: INR736 million), an Indian that has digital technologies including Artificial Intelligence, IoT, 5G, Virtual Reality, and Artificial Reality.


The price is INR8,050 million (nearly eleven times EBITDA).


The buyer, TechnoPro, is listed in the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange with revenue of ~USD1,165 million and group employees of 24,956.

Daiwa House Industry Company, Limited decided to acquire an 80% stake in CastleRock Communities, L.P., a home builder in the U.S.

Rigaku Corporation - a Japanese manufacturer and distributor of scientific, analytical, and industrial instrumentation specializing in X-ray related technologies

Rigaku acquired MILabs B.V., a Dutch company that has technologies for molecular imaging, developing high-performance preclinical micro-PET, micro-SPECT, micro-CT, and Optical Tomography systems as well as human high-resolution SPECT.

Shizuoka Gas Co., Ltd. agreed to acquire a 49% stake in Thai-Japan Gas Network Company Limited in Thailand.

Istyle Inc. - a Japanese E-Commerce company

Istyle that is specialized in cosmetic products acquired Glowdayz, Inc., a Korea-based IT company specialized in providing mobile development solutions to the cosmetic and real-estate sectors. The price is ~USD8 million.


The buyer, Istyle, is listed in the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange with revenue of ~USD305 million and employees of 1161.

Yokogawa Electric Corporation, a Japanese multinational electrical engineering, and software company with businesses based on its measurement, control, and information technologies

Yokogawa Electric invested in Fluence Analytics, a U.S. startup that provides industrial and laboratory monitoring solutions with continuous data streams.


The Buyer, Yokogawa Electric, is listed in the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange with a revenue of ~USD4 billion and group employees of 18,000.

Glory Ltd. - the world largest manufacturer of currency processing equipment based in Japan

Glory invested in Unified Financial Limited in the U.K. to acquire fintech technology. Glory is listed in the first section of the Tokyo Stock exchange with revenue of ~USD2 billion and group employees of 11,000

Actcall Inc. - a Japanese startup that operates call centers and provides emergency services for residential members

Actcall acquired 51% in Viet Guys Joint Stock Company, which operates an SMS (Short Message Service) business in Vietnam.
The price is ~USD4 million.
The buyer, Actcall, is listed in the Mothers section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange with revenue of ~USD40 million and employees of 125.

Axcelead Inc., a Japanese pharmaceutical company acquired PassPort Technologies, Inc., a biotechnology firm in the U.S.

Rengo Co., Ltd. - a Japanese paper box manufacturer

Rengo acquired a 75% stake in three Indonesian corrugated board manufacturers: PT Indonesia Dirtajaya Aneka Industri Box, PT Bahana Buana Box, and PT Rapipack Asritama.

MUFG Bank, Ltd. decided to acquire SHBank Finance Company Limited, a consumer finance company in Vietnam.

Recomm Co., Ltd., a Japanese seller of communication equipment

Recomm decided to acquire Sin Lian Wah Lighting Sdn . Bhd., a seller of electric and lighting equipment in Malaysia.

July 2021

Supership Holdings Inc. formed a capital and business alliance with Novatiq Limited in the U.K., a U.K. company that developed a technology for digital audience-targeting ads.

V-cube, Inc. decided to acquire Xyvid Inc. for USD15 million, which is a U.S. provider of high-resolution, internet-based broadcast platforms.

Nippon Suisan Kaisha Ltd. acquired a 75% stake in Three Oceans Fish Company Limited, a producer of coated fish products in the UK.

Fudo Tetra Corporation has entered into an agreement to acquire a 49% stake in Advanced Geosolutions Inc., a design-build ground improvement and specialty piling contractor in the U.S.

Sojitz Corporation invested in Showfields, Inc., a U.S. developer of a direct-to-consumer retail platform intended to play host to innovative brands.

Tokyo Century Corporation acquired Work Truck Direct, Inc., a specialized US dealer in the niche market of highly customized vehicles and equipment, with a high level of expertise in small and medium-sized trucks for e-commerce and arbor equipment and vehicles.

Link-U Inc. decided to acquire a 50% stake in Comikey Media Inc., a U.S. startup that focuses on licensing and digitally publishing Asian market media. The investment will be approx. 100 million yen.

Sapporo Holdings Limited acquired Aware Beverages Inc., an alcoholic-beverage company in Canada.

Mitsubishi Corporation (Consolidated sales: 14,779 billion yen in FY2019) has increased its stake in Jetti Holdings, Inc. (Jetti), a U.S. natural resources company that has developed a cutting-edge, catalytic technology that allows for effective extraction of copper.


Mitsubishi Corporation also acquired a 40% stake in Australian Integrated Carbon, an Australian company engaged in the sale of carbon credits.

Musashi Seimitsu Industry Co., Ltd. invested in Spornado Inc., a Canadian start-up that develops an early alert system that detects crop disease.

Sojitz Corporation acquired a 50% stake in Edenvale Solar Park Pty Ltd., an Australian developer in the renewable energy business.

NEC Corporation acquired Vantage Health, a UK-based company that provides technology-driven solutions to the National Health Service by using AI.

AGRI CARE Co., Ltd. and its related parties acquired Patient Technologies Vietnam Joint Stock Company, a Vietnamese provider of IT services and developer of software in the medical and healthcare fields.

Akatsuki Inc. invested in Carry1st, a developer and publisher of mobile games and content apps in South Africa.

Mitsubishi HC Capital Inc. decided to acquire  CAI International, Inc., a U.S. transportation company that offers intermodal container leasing and sales. The planned purchase price is USD1,108 million.

Sony Group acquired Somethin’ Else, a U.K. producer of audio, TV, and social media.

Bridgestone Corporation will acquire a minority stake in Kodiak Robotics, a U.S. company that develops technology for self-driving trucks.

Mabuchi Motor Company has entered into an agreement to acquire Electromag SA, a company in Switzerland specialized in the design, sales, and production of high-performance miniature brushless motors for medical and dental industries.

K.K. NKC Asia invested in Meet.jobs, a company in Taiwan that offers a headhunter platform focusing on international talents and jobs.

Denso Corporation invested in Seurat Technologies Inc., a U.S. start-up company that develops a new metal 3D printing process.

Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. became a cornerstone shareholder of Elopak ASA, a Norwegian company producing cartons for liquids.

Corundum Systems Biology Inc. invested in Holobiome, Inc., a U.S. biotechnology company that develops microbiome-based therapeutics for mental health.

Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Limited acquired a 4.15% non-voting stake in CrossHarbor Capital Partners LLC, an investment and asset management firm in the U.S.

Sojitz Corporation invested in 2D Materials Pte. Ltd., a Singaporean manufacturer of high-performance graphene as an industrial additive.

GSI Creos Corporation invested in Brilliant Matters Organic Electronics Inc., a Canadian supplier of organic semiconductors and conductors for organic solar cells and other printed electronics markets.

Nippon Sanso Holdings Corporation acquired Cryogenic Systems Equipment, Inc., a US company that manufactures or modifies freezing systems.

TIS Inc. invested in Miaomi Technology, a Chinese company that develops the Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT).


Marubeni Corporation has entered into an agreement to acquire a stake in Euroma Holding B.V., a Dutch manufacturer of herbs and spices.

Prima Meat Packers, Ltd. has entered into an agreement to acquire Rudi's Fine Food Pte Ltd., a producer of gourmet meat products based in Singapore.

Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, Inc. and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation acquired a 4.99% stake in Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation in the Philippines for JPY10 billion.

DIC Corporation acquired the business of the Colors and Effects brand from a German company. The business encompasses BASF's broad portfolio of colorants and effect pigments.

Hisaka Works, Ltd. announced its decision to acquire a 15% stake in KAPP SAS that manufactures heat exchangers in France.

Topcon Corporation acquired Visia Imaging S.r.l, an Italian technology company that designs, engineers, and manufactures hardware and software solutions for clinical diagnostics with a specific focus on ophthalmology, autoimmunity, digital pathology, and cytogenetics applications.

Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. acquired Uqora, Inc., a US biotechnology company focused on urinary tract health.

Kokubu Group Corp. acquired the remaining stake in Shanghai Hengfu Logistics Co., a service provider that specializes in cold chain logistics in China.

Nippon Light Metal Holdings Company, Ltd. increased its stake in Svam Toyal Packaging Industries Private Limited, an Indian company that serves the pharmaceutical industry, from 17.6% to 51%.

United, Inc. invested in Decagon Global, Inc., a US company that operates an integrated business model from training of engineers to placement of human resources in Nigeria, Europe, and the U.S.

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines entered is in negotiation to acquire a 40% stake in Waterfront Shipping, a shipping company in Canada, for USD145 million.

Chodai Co., Ltd. invested in two companies in the Philippines: Philnos Corporation, a recruitment agency, and Nosphil Consultancy; and Manpower Services Inc., that specializes in supplying office staff, engineers, technicians, and skilled workers.

Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. (Consolidated sales: 1,467 billion yen in FY2021) acquired InterFlex Group, a US flexible packaging supplier and converter.

Daikin Industries, Ltd. (Consolidated sales: 2,493 billion yen in FY2021) invested in OCSiAl S.A., a single-walled carbon nanotubes manufacturer in Luxemburg.

Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (Consolidated sales: 8,000 billion yen in FY2021) increased its stake from 49% to 60% in Inversiones Mitta SpA, a company in the automobile operating lease and rental car business in Chile.

Kintetsu World Express, Inc., acquired Prestige Cargo Services Inc., a Canada-based provider of international transportation services for live and fresh products.

SoftBank Corp. has entered into an agreement to acquire a 23.1% stake in Axiata Digital Advertising Sdn. Bhd. for USD60 million, which is a provider of digital advertising services in Malaysia.

Totech Corporation has decided to acquire Quantum Automation Pte. Ltd. for 4,050 million yen, which is a manufacturer in Singapore for building automation products.

Morinaga Milk Industry Co., Ltd. acquired a 51% stake in Elovi Vietnam Joint Stock Company, a manufacturer in Vietnam of dairy products. Morinaga plans to increase the stake to 100% by July.

NTT Docomo Ventures, Inc. invested in the following two companies in the U.S.:

  • Arcturus Studios Holdings, Inc., which creates a platform for editing and distribution of volumetric content.

  • Avatour Technolgies, Inc., which provides a solution for generating and distributing 360-degree 3D spatial images

Itochu Enex Co., Ltd. acquired a stake in WP Energy Public Company Limited, a distributor of liquefied petroleum gas in Thailand.

Seiko Epson Corporation and Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd. invested in SiLC Technologies, Inc., a U.S. start-up focusing on photonic sensor and 3D imaging applications.

Datasection Inc. decided to pay 110 million yen to increase its stake in Alianza Follow Up S.A.S. from 51% to 100%. The target is a company in Colombia that develops business intelligence software for retailers.

V Technology Co., Ltd. decided to pay 1 billion yen to increase its stake in Veton Tech Limited from 50% to 100%. The target is a company in Hong Kong that sells products and services related to the manufacture of electronic devices.

IHI Corporation decided to invest in NuScale Power, LLC., a U.S. company that designs and markets small modular reactors.

Toyota Tsusho Corporation decided to invest in AiCare Group, Inc., a company in Kenya that develops technology to calculate the risk of accidents for drivers and to quantify the risk score for automobile insurance products, using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Nikon Corporation acquired a majority stake in Morf3D Inc., a US-based provider of metal additive manufacturing (AM) solutions specializing in advanced manufacturing and engineering for the aerospace, defense, and space industry.

JGC Holdings Corporation decided to invest USD40 million in NuScale Power, LLC, a US-based company that designs and markets small modular reactors.

Softbank Group Corp. has entered into an agreement to acquire 40% of AutoStore for $2.8 billion from funds affiliated with Thomas H. Lee Partners, L.P., and EQT Private Equity among other shareholders. AutoStore is a Norway-based robotics and software company.

Kato Sangyo Co., Ltd. has entered into an agreement to invest in Song Ma Retail Joint Stock Company, an importer and distributor of consumer goods in Vietnam.

Fujitsu acquired Versor Proprietary Limited, an Australia-based digital innovation consulting services company.

Outsourcing Inc. decided to acquire California Pacific Technical Services LLC, a US company that offers communications facility installation and maintenance services.

Kurita Water Industries Ltd. acquired Keytech Water Management, a Canada-based company specializing in the supply of water treatment chemicals, equipment systems, and related services.

Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. has entered into an agreement to acquire Standard Security Life Insurance Company of New York for USD180 million, which is a U.S.-based provider of disability insurance.

Asahi Kasei Homes Corp. has entered into an agreement to increase its stake in McDonald Jones Homes Pty Ltd, a home builder in Australia, from 40% to 80%.

GMO GlobalSign HD K.K. decided to acquire 4 Business Solutions Consultoria Eireli for JPY33 million, a Brazil-based company that offers digital certificates and SAP consulting services.

SBI Holdings, Inc. has entered into an agreement to acquire an 86% stake in FerroSens GmbH, a Germany-based company that has developed proprietary technology that allows reliable non-invasive detection of iron deficiency.


Axelmark Inc. announced its investment in Ascella Biosystems, Inc. in the U.S, an early-stage diagnostics company focused on the development and commercialization of a rapid handheld viral molecular RNA testing system.

Panasonic Corporation decided to increase its stake in Blue Yonder Group, Inc., a U.S. software and consultancy company, providing supply chain management, from 20% to 100%. In this deal, USD5.6 billion will be paid by Panasonic to New Mountain Capital and the Blackstone Group.

Daido Steel Co., Ltd. has entered into an agreement to acquire TimkenSteel Shanghai Corporation Ltd., a distributor of steel products in China.

Bridgestone Corporation has entered into an agreement to acquire Otraco International Pty Ltd, an Australia-based company that provides earthmover off-the-road tire management services. The price will be around AUD79 million.

Jakore Inc., Ever Brew K.K., and DIC Corporation invested in Vaxa Technologies Ltd., a company in Israel that developed a patented technology for sustainable indoor microalgae cultivation for the production of omega-3 fatty acids.

Sojitz Corporation will invest in Universal Hydrogen Co., a U.S. company that develops and commercializes hydrogen-fueled aircraft and hydrogen supply networks for aircraft.


Techno Horizon Co., Ltd. decided to acquire the following four companies for a combined price of For JPY2.4 billion:

  • Pacific Tech Pte. Ltd. in Singapore (provider of network/cybersecurity and data protection/ continuity solutions to various market verticals in the ASEAN region.

Toyota Motor Corporation has entered into an agreement to pay USD550 million to Lyft, Inc. to acquire the Level 5 business. Level 5 develops a self-driving system for the network of Lyft, Inc., a U.S.-based provider of a mobile app, offering vehicles for hire, motorized scooters, a bicycle-sharing system, and food delivery.

EPS Holdings, Inc. has entered into an agreement to acquire a 75% stake in Speed Apparel Holding Limited, an apparel supply chain management services provider in Hong Kong, for HKD5,270 million.

Nipro Corporation acquired a 70% stake in two companies, both of which operate a dialysis center in China.

Yagi & Co.,Ltd. increased its stake in Lingble Inc. that offers an all-in-one e-commerce solution, operated by Lingble Pte. Ltd. in Singapore.

Sumitomo Corporation invested in  Sunseap Group Pte. Ltd., a renewable and solar energy company in Singapore.

Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, Inc. decided to acquire a 49% stake in VPBank Finance Company Limited, a consumer finance company in Vietnam.

Kadokawa Corporation acquired JNovel Club LLC, a U.S. digital publishing company specializing in the publication of Japanese light novels in English.

Olympus Corporation announced its decision to increase its stake in Medi-Tate Ltd., a medical equipment manufacturer in Israel, from 20 percent to 100 percent for USD260 million.

GxPartners LLP invested in FiduciaEdge Technologies Co., Ltd., a Taiwan-based developer of edge security solutions for an IT environment.

Mitsui & Co., Ltd. announced its acquisition of a 15.4% stake in Storegga Geotechnologies Limited, a low-carbon project delivery business in the UK.

Sumitomo Corporation invested in Classiq Ltd, a quantum software developer in Israel.

Tokyo Century Corporation has entered into an agreement to invest in Volocopter GmbH, a developer of flying cars in Germany.

The abovementioned Tokyo Century Corporation also decided to increase its stake in NTT Global Data Centers NAV2 Private Limited to 99.9% for INR10,285 million, which is an India-based IT services and equipment leasing company.

ShinMaywa Industries, Ltd. decided to increase its stake in TurboMAX Co., Ltd, a manufacturer of Air Suspension Turbine Machinery in South Korea, from 5.9 percent to 81 percent.

Orix Corporation acquired a 21.8 percent stake in Greenko Energy Holdings for USD961 million, which is an India-based company that owns manufacturers of wind, hydro, and solar energy generation machinery.

Marubeni Corporation invested in Skeleton Technologies Group OÜ, a manufacturer of ultracapacitors in Estonia.

Digital Hearts Holdings Co., Ltd. decided to acquire Metaps Entertainment Limited. Metaps Entertainment is based in China and has branches in Singapore, Hong Kong, Taipei, and Tokyo.

The abovementioned Digital Hearts Holdings Co., Ltd. also decided to acquire a 61.2% stake in MK Partners, Inc., a U.S. company that provides system consulting services, focusing on Salesforce implementation, maintenance, and operation.

The Chugoku Electric Power Co., Inc. and Chudenko Corporation acquired a 25% stake in Shin  Fong Power Co., Ltd., a hydroelectric power generation company in Taiwan.

NTT Docomo Ventures, Inc. invested in Crosser Technologies AB that offers edge computing platforms in Sweden.

Sojitz Corporation acquired Southwest Rail Industries Inc. that offers full-service leasing of rail cars in the US.

Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited acquired US-based Maverick Therapeutics Inc. for USD525 million, which develops conditionally active bispecific T-cell targeted immunotherapies.

Shinsei Bank had agreed to acquire a 10% interest in Latitude Financial Services, an Australian consumer finance company, for A$300 million. The current owners are Värde Partners, KKR, and Deutsche Bank.

Nomura Research Institute, Ltd. decided to acquire the Australia-based holding company of Planit Test Management Solutions Pty Ltd that offers testing services for IT systems.

Shikoku Electric Power Company, Inc. invested in LO3 Energy Inc., a US-based energy technology company that makes use of a P2P energy platform for the trading of energy.

Fuva Brain Limited decided to invest USD200,000 in Singapore-based Digital Entertainment Asset Pte. Ltd. that develops a new blockchain-utilizing platform enterprise set.


Penta-Ocean Construction Co. Ltd. has entered into an agreement to acquire a 28.8% stake in Koh Brothers Eco Engineering Ltd. for SGD38,070,000, which is a Singapore-based engineering solutions group that provides engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services for water and wastewater treatment, hydro-engineering, bio-refinery, and bio-energy projects.

Itochu Corporation announced that it:

  • invested in Farmer Connect SA, a Switzerland-based tech startup that builds farm-to-consumer traceability solutions using Blockchain technology.

  • acquired a 19% stake in Taiwan Pelican Express Co., Ltd. that offers courier delivery services in Taiwan, and

  • increased its stake in Provence Huiles S.A.S. to 100 percent, which manufactures edible oils in France.

Info Mart Corporation and Mitsui & Co., Ltd. have entered into an agreement to acquire a 30% stake in Beijing Bojunyouxuan Technology Co., Ltd., a food technology company in China.

 

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. announced its investment in Larvik Shipping AS, a Norway-based operator of industrial liquefied CO2 vessels.

The Chugoku Electric Power Co., Inc. has entered into an agreement to acquire a 44% stake in Energy Fiji Limited, an electricity company in the Republic of Fiji.

 

STG Co., Ltd. decided to acquire STX Precision (JB) SDN. BHD. for JPY764 million, which is a Malaysia-based manufacturer of precision metal parts and components using high-pressure die-casting of aluminum and zinc alloys.

 

The Nexon Co., Ltd. disclosed its investment in Hasbro, Inc., a US-based multinational conglomerate with toy, board game, and media assets.

 

Hitachi Ltd. decided to acquire GlobalLogic Inc., a US-based digital engineering services company, for USD8.5 billion.

 

DyDo Group Holdings, Inc. decided to increase its stake in Della Gıda Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. and  Bahar Su Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş., both from 90% to 100%, for the combined price of TRY84 million. These are beverage manufacturers in Turkey.

SBI Holdings, Inc. decided to invest in Sygnum Bank AG, a digital asset bank in Switzerland.

Meidensha Corporation announced its investment in Elmodis Sp. z o.o., a company based in Poland, which offers IoT-based remote monitoring and diagnosis services for motors and load equipment.

KDDI Corporation acquired a stake in Station Digital Media, Inc. a US-based vendor providing applications and products for connected services.


It was announced that Softbank Group Corp. will invest USD900 million in convertible senior notes issued by Pacific Biosciences of California, Inc., a US-based developer and manufacturer of systems for gene sequencing. 


KDDI Corporation invested in Swift Navigation Inc. a high-precision positioning technology company in the US.


Renesas Electronics Corporation has entered into an agreement to acquire Dialog Semiconductor Plc, a UK-domiciled manufacturer of semiconductor-based system solutions, for EUR 4,886 million.


Yurtec Corporation decided to buy the remaining minority interests of its subsidiary, Sigma Engineering JSC, a specialist mechanical and electrical (M&E) engineering service provider in Vietnam.


Showa Denko K.K. acquired a 50 percent stake in AMI Automation a Mexico-based automation and control solutions company.


NEXTY Electronics Corporation announced its investment in Smart Radar System Inc., a provider of radar sensor-based solutions and applications in South Korea.

Teijin Limited has entered into an agreement to pay 308.7 million yuan to purchase additional shares of CSP Victall (Tangshan) Structural Composites Co., Ltd., a China-based company that develops raw materials and finished products of glass fiber reinforced composite materials.  After the purchase, Teijin’s stake will be 100%.

NTT DATA Corporation has entered into an agreement to acquire Hashmap, Inc., a US-based firm that supports customers' use of data analytics based on expertise in cloud-based data platforms.

Ferrotec Holdings Corporation acquired MeiVac,Inc., a US manufacturer of thin-film manufacturing systems, components, and process solutions.

NSK Ltd. announced its acquisition of the Condition Monitoring Solutions business of Spectris Plc. in the UK for €169 million. 

Kubota Corporation announced its investment in SeeTree Systems Ltd. in Israel, which provides the service of checking the health of orchards using AI and drones.

Sony Corporation acquired Ellation Holdings, Inc., a US anime business operator, for USD1.18 billion.

ITOCHU Corporation acquired Bay4 Energy Services, LLC that provides operation, maintenance, and asset management services for solar power plants in the US.

SBI Holdings, Inc. announced its investment in DataRobot, Inc., a US-based automated machine learning platform for business analysts and data scientists.

Olympus Corporation signed an agreement to acquire Veran Medical Technologies, Inc., a US-based medical device maker.

Digital Wallet Corporation acquired a remittance service provider in Canada.

ORIX Corporation has entered into an agreement to purchase a 70% stake in Gravis Capital Management Ltd., an independent asset management company headquartered in the UK.

Arisawa Manufacturing Co.,Ltd. decided to make a tender offer to acquire the minority shareholeders’ interests in its subsidiary, ThinFlex Corporation, a Taiwan-based manufacture of flexible copper clad laminates (FCCL) and coverlays (CL) used for flexible printed circuit (FPC) board manufacturing.

Denzai group acquired a 71 percent stake in Huationg Holdings Pte. Ltd., a heavy lift and haulage service provider in Singapore.

MEDIA DO Co., Ltd. acquired a minority interest of Entertainment Asset Pte. Ltd., which develops software and offers digital entertainment and assets services in Singapore.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. invested in Monolith Materials, Inc., a US company that converts natural gas to carbon black in an environmentally advantaged manner.

Tamagawa Holdings Co., Ltd. announced its acquisition of an 8.5 percent stake in TMY Technology Inc. for TWD9,999,976, which is a company that provides mmWave solutions for 5G and satellite communications in Taiwan. 

SECOM Co., Ltd. acquired Adt Services (M) SDN. BHD. and ADT Integrated Security Solutions PTE. LTD., providers of security systems for homes and businesses, in Malaysia and Singapore, respectively.

NYK Line increased its stake from 20 percent to 100 percent of Gazocean, a ship operator that transports liquefied natural gas based in France.

Medical Net, Inc. announced its acquisition of Pacific Dental Care Co., Ltd. for 16 million in Thai Baht, which is an operator of dentistry clinics and hospitals in Thailand.

Mobcast Holdings Inc. invested 481 million yen to increase its stake in Enhance Experience, Inc. to 19 percent, which is a game developer in the US.

Hakuhodo DY Holdings Inc. acquired a 25 percent stake in Public Digital Ltd., a digital transformation consultancy in the UK.

Musashi Seimitsu Industry Co., Ltd. announced its additional investment in Zimeno Inc., a venture firm that develops small-sized EV tractors for agriculture in the US. 

Nakanishi Inc. announced its acquisition of a 33 percent stake in DCI International, LLC., a manufacturer of dental equipment and parts in the US. 

Tomy Company Ltd. acquired Fat Brain Holdings, LLC for USD41 million, which is a manufacturer of children’s toys, games, and gifts in the US.

The sellers were Winona FB, LLC, a private equity firm, FB HoldCo, LLC, and FBTC HoldCo, LLC.

Striders Corporation announced its investment in Attention Holdings Pte. Ltd., the parent company of an esports organization in Singapore. 

Hitachi Ltd. invested TWD3 billion in Yungtay Engineering Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of elevators in Taiwan. This increased Hitachi’s stake from 41.1 percent to 51.1 percent.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced its investment in HydrogenPro AS, a company engaged in the engineering industry and providing expertise in the hydrogen and renewable energy industry based in Norway.

Astellas Pharma Inc. announced its USD127.5 million investment to acquire the entire stake in Iota Biosciences, Inc., a bioelectronic medicine company in the US. 

Kyoshin Co., Ltd. announced its acquisition of SELC Australia Pty Ltd for 10 million yen, which is an operator of language schools and vocational schools in Australia.

Toyo Seikan Group Holdings, Ltd. announced its investment in Shiok Meats, a venture that develops cultivated shrimp products in Singapore.  

Nissin Foods Holdings Co., Ltd. announced that it will increase its stake in RHQ-Asia in Thailand. 

Toda Corporation announced its acquisition of a 40 percent stake in PT Tatamulia Nusantara Indah, a constructor in Indonesia. 

Vision Inc. announced its acquisition of HORIZON WiFi, a provider of WiFi rental service in Taiwan.

Danto Holdings Corporation announced its acquisition of a 16.5 percent stake in Lodasoft, LLC for USD5 million, which is a developer of mortgage task automation software in the US.

NTT DOCOMO Ventures, Inc. announced its investment in GeoSpock Ltd, a developer of fast analysis platforms for ultra-large-scale data in the UK.

NEC Corporation announced the acquisition of 100% of Avaloq’s shares for CHF2.05 billion. Avaloq is a Swiss-based global leader in digital banking solutions. 45% of Avaloq’s shares are owned by Warburg Pincus LLC., while the rest are held by Avaloq’s founder and employees.

September 2020

Kurita Water Industries, the largest manufacturer and developer of water treatment facilities and chemicals in Japan,  agreed to purchase a 51-percent stake in Aqua Chemie DMCC in the United Arab Emirates.

Dai-ichi Life Holdings, the third-largest insurer in Japan announced that it had agreed to purchase an insurer Warranty Topco in the US.

August 2020

​A Chinese arm of Hitachi Group closed the deal on August 26, 2020, to purchase Bot Lease (capitalized at USD 1.4 million) in Hong Kong.
